يورينيم ڌاتوءَ جي 235 نموني کي ”رچاءَ“ يا Fission Process (فزڪس جي سائنس ۾ هڪ اهڙو عمل آهي جنهن جي ذريعي يورينيم 235 جي ڌاتوءَ کي ڌماڪيدار مادي ۾ تبديل ڪري سگهجي ٿو) مان گذاري ائٽم بم ٺاهيو وڃي ٿو. ائٽمي رچاءَ جي ذريعي 235 يورينيم مان 239 درجي جو پلاٽينيم به ٺاهي سگهجي ٿو، جيڪو به تمام گهڻي تباهي ڦهلائيندڙ خطرناڪ مادو آهي. ٻي عالمي جنگ دؤران جپان جي شهر هيروشيما تي يورينيم ۽ ناگاساڪي تي پلوٽونيم جا جُدا جُدا بم ڪيرايا ويا. آمريڪا طرفان ائٽم بم جو تجربو 16-جولاءِ 1945ع ۾ ”مئنهٽن منصوبي“ هيٺ ڪيو ويو ۽ 6- آگسٽ 1945ع تي ٺاهي لائٽم بم جپان جي شهر هيروشيما ۽ 9-آگسٽ 1945ع ۾ ناگاساڪي مٿان ڪيرايا ويا. اڳتي هلي يورينيم ڌاتوءَ کي ائٽمي رچاءَ جي مُختلف طريقي منجهان گذاري بجلي پيدا ڪرڻ جو ذريعو به ٺاهيو ويو، جنهن کي ”شهري مقصدن لاءِ نيوڪليائي توانائي“ جو نالو ڏنو ويو آهي
